Horizon Education Centers is proud to offer summer school programs. But not all of our activities happen within the walls of our 13 centers.
Horizon’s partnerships and collaborations continue to flourish with local school districts. These summer programs focus on Horizon’s core mission and bring in other like-minded organizations in a united effort to benefit children and youth development programs throughout the region.
Executive Director Dave Smith, recently visited our three summer school-age programs that are not in Horizon Education Centers, meeting with students and teachers.
He started at Southside Pride at West Recreation Center in Elyria. It’s a program funded by the United Way of Greater Lorain County.
He then went on to see what was happening at CMSD Dunbar School on Cleveland’s near Westside, which is backed by Say Yes Cleveland.
His last stop was at Lakewood’s Harrison Elementary 21st Century Program, supported by the Ohio Department of Education.
Mr. Smith was amazed at everything that was happening at the sites. In just one day he saw a variety of programming, including:
- Nutrition and exercise classes
- STEAM experiments
- Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) role-playing
- Yoga
- Ohio History
- Silk Screening
- Tile painting
- Reading
