If you want to do a fun science experiment that teaches kids about weather and water cycle then Rain Cloud in a Jar is an activity that kids and preschoolers will love. It involves learning along with sensory activity and a lot of fun. The concept behind this experiment is:
Clouds are formed when water vapor rises into the air. When the water vapor hits cold air, it turns into tiny droplets of water. These droplets start to stick together and grow. When the droplets become big ,the water falls down as rain.
In this experiment, we make clouds with shaving cream and the food colored water is the rain. As you drop the colored water into the cloud the weight of the water forces itself through the cloud to form colouful rain into the jar.
-Pipette or dropper
How to do it:
Take cold water in a jar and fill it to 3/4th level.
Add shaving foam on top of the cold water
Mix some food colour in water and keep aside
Take a pipette or dropper and keep adding the coloured water to foam little by little
Eventually the foam is not able to hold the water and the coloured water trickles down as rain
This experiment gives children a very simplistic view of how rain happens. It is visually exciting for kids to see the coloured water trickling down. You might want to keep rainbow colours with you as the kids will want to experiment with all colours later !
