Is your baby ready to start solid foods but you don’t know where to start? Then I’ve got you! Making purees is a great way to introduce your baby to food safely. While making your own baby food may sound stressful, it doesn’t have to be! You just need the right tool for the job. In this guide, I share my picks for the best baby food blenders, including which ones are ideal for smoothies, steaming, and purees!

Baby food makers are a useful tool for preparing food in advance and storing it in baby food-safe containers so that you always have a meal for your baby at the ready. I’ve been making baby food for years, and I hope you love my recommendations for the best blenders for baby food as much as I do!

As always, make sure to talk to your pediatrician first before starting your little one on solid foods. Now, let the (messy) adventure begin!

    Our Top Picks:

    1. What’s in My Kitchen: Blendtec Total Blender Classic – $379.95 at Amazon
    2. Best Food Processor: Cuisinart Elemental Food Processor – $129.99 at Amazon
    3. Best Hand Blender: Breville Control Grip Immersion Blender – $129.95 at Amazon
    4. Best Baby Steamer and Blender: Beaba Babycook Neo – $259.95 at Amazon

Reviews of The Best Blenders for Baby Food

    1. What’s in My Kitchen: Blendtec Total Blender Classic

Best blenders for baby food: Blendtec
    Credit: Amazon

The best blender for baby food is the Blendtec Total Blender Classic. I use this blender in my kitchen to make baby food purees! The blender jar is spacious, so you can easily make large batches of baby food at once. The jar is also dishwasher-safe on the top rack! The blender does a fantastic job of creating a smooth texture that babies love, plus it has 10 speeds and 6 pre-programmed cycles, so you can use it for all kinds of dishes (not just baby food). A food processor may leave behind a bumpy texture that some babies don’t like, which is why I often prefer using a blender over a food processor. The Blendtec Total is a professional-grade blender (meaning it has a lot of power), and it’s BPA-free, too.

    The Specs:

    • Weight: 7.3 pounds
    • Dimensions: 7  inches x 8 inches x 15.5 inches
    • Jar Material: Plastic
    • Jar Capacity: 75 ounces

    The Pros:

    • Powerful
    • Simple to use
    • Large capacity

    The Cons:

    What Others are Saying:

The Blendtec Total Blender Classic has over 2,900 reviews on Amazon with a 4.6-star rating.

    2. Best Food Processor: Cuisinart Elemental Food Processor

Best blenders for baby food: Cuisinart Elemental Food Processor

A food processor is a versatile kitchen tool you will use for making baby food and more! I love using the Cuisinart Elemental Food Processor for making baby purees from sweet potatoes, beets, and carrots. This Cuisinart food processor comes in several cup sizes, including four, eight, 11, and 13. I have the 11-cup model, and it is an ideal size for making large batches of baby food. Plus, it’s easy to rinse clean, because all the parts are dishwasher safe. It also has stainless steel blades that won’t rust easily, and the bowl is dishwasher-safe and BPA-free.

    The Specs:

    • Weight: 11.5 pounds
    • Dimensions: 8 inches. x 10.43 inches x 16.27 inches
    • Jar Material: Plastic
    • Jar Capacity: 11 cups

    The Pros:

    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to use
    • Good size variety

    The Cons:

    What Others are Saying:

The Cuisinart Elemental  Food Processor has almost 17,000 Amazon reviews and an average 4.5-star rating.

    3. Best Hand Blender: Breville Control Grip Immersion Blender

If you don’t have much counter space or kitchen storage, a handheld immersion blender is a great alternative to using a traditional blender for making baby food. The Breville Control Grip Immersion Blender has an ergonomic grip to help keep your hand comfortable while blending. It has a bell-shaped blending base and internal ribbing, which helps reduce the amount of suction and gives you more control over blending your baby’s food to their preferred texture. It also has 15 speeds, and it comes with a whisk attachment, so you’ll still find plenty of use for it long after your baby has graduated from purées.

    The Specs:

    • Weight: 3.8 pounds
    • Dimensions: 6.2 inches x 7.5 inches x 12.4 inches
    • Jar Material: Plastic
    • Jar Capacity: 42 ounces

    The Pros:

    • Easy to store
    • Easy to clean
    • Quiet
    • Powerful performance
    • Good value

    The Cons:

    • Not as powerful as a traditional blender

    What Others are Saying:

Wirecutter named the Breville Control Grip as the best overall immersion blender, and it has 4.6 star rating from more than 3,800 Amazon reviewers.

Buy the Breville Control Grip Immersion Blender:

    4. Best Baby Steamer and Blender: Beaba Babycook Neo

    Beaba Babycook baby food maker

If you’re looking for an all-in-one option, the Beaba Babycook Neo is my favorite. This baby steamer and blender does everything you need to make a delicious meal for your baby in one convenient device. I love that it’s not plastic (the steamer basket is stainless steel and the bowl is glass) and that it automatically turns off so you don’t run the risk of overcooking your baby’s food. This machine is smaller than most blenders and food processors. So, if you’re short on kitchen storage or counter space, this is the baby food maker you need!

    The Specs:

    • Weight: 6 pounds
    • Dimensions: 14.5 x 12.5 x 11 inches
    • Jar Material: Glass
    • Jar Capacity: 34 ounces

    The Pros:

    • Chic design
    • Easy to clean
    • Available in a range of colors

Ninja Nutri Pro Compact Personal Blender

The Ninja Nutri Pro is a single-serve blender that turns pieces of whole fruits and vegetables into a creamy mixture that your baby will love! This BPA-free blender is smaller in size and has fewer features than our top picks, but it’s still one of the best baby food blenders you can buy. It’s great for making smoothies and frozen treats, too! The Ninja Nutri Pro Compact Personal Blender is available at Amazon for $79.99.

My passion for making purees started after the birth of my first daughter. Obsessed with giving her only the best, I sampled three of the top organic apple purees available. I didn’t like any of them! This was the start of my love of making baby food. Years later (and many, many thousands of ounces of purees later), I am sharing some of my favorite baby food blenders with you all.

This guide includes some of my picks that I regularly use at home to make baby food purees, like my favorite blender and my favorite food processor. I’m also sharing my top recommendations for hand blenders, baby food makers, and more.

Everything to Know Before Buying a Blender for Baby Food

What to Consider Before Buying a Blender for Baby Food

Choosing a blender can feel a lot like buying a car—there are so many models to choose from! The type of blender you need to make baby food will vary based on the size of your kitchen, intended usage, and more! Here are my top tips to consider before buying a blender:

    • Variable speeds: This gives you more control over the consistency of the puree.
    • High-quality build: Choose a blender with stainless steel blades and a BPA–free or glass jar/base to help avoid any harmful chemicals.
    • Easy to clean: Choose one that is dishwasher-safe—many models are!
    • Size matters: Select a size that fits your kitchen. However, consider a large capacity blender offers flexibility on how much or little to make.

Can You Puree in a Blender?

Yes! A blender is a great tool for making baby food purees. The more variable speeds it has, the smoother your puree will be! A blender like the Blendtec Total Blender Classic or the Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series Smart Blender offers professional-grade blending. These high-power blenders can whip up super smooth purees in minutes!

How Do You Make Homemade Baby Food?

Making baby food is easier than you think! Why should you? Well, it tastes better, it tastes real, and it tastes fresh! To make your baby food, prepare the ingredients by washing and peeling your produce. Baby food purees can be made in a few ways: steaming, roasting, simmering, or blending them raw. Some all-in-one baby food blenders, like Evla’s Baby Food Maker, will steam and puree the food for you. How easy is that?

What’s the Best Way to Store Homemade Baby Food?

When embarking on your baby food-making journey at home, it’s important to invest in a good set of baby food storage containers. This helps keep the food fresh, and it is more convenient than on-demand baby food making. Homemade purees can be stored in the fridge for up to five days or up to four months in the freezer.
