Buybuy Baby’s parent company, Bed Bath & Beyond, filed for bankruptcy on Sunday.
If you head to the buybuy Baby website right now it says, “Thank you to all of our loyal customers. We have made the difficult decision to begin winding down our operations. Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby stores remain open to serve you.”
In the meantime, all 120 buybuy BABY stores will remain open as well as their website.
This could mean they will shut it down for good. Or it could mean that someone will swoop in and purchase buybuy Baby OR it could shift to online only. Only time will tell.
So what does that mean for you?
If you need to return something
They will accept returns and exchanges for items purchased prior to April 26, 2023 until May 24, 2023. Any purchases made after April 26, 2023, will be final.
You have recently placed an order
They expect all in-stock orders to be delivered.
If you have a gift card
Use it. They are going to be valid through May 8, 2023.
You have a coupon
They will stop accepting coupons on April 26, 2023.
If you have a credit
You can use merchandise credits until May 15, 2023. Use it as soon as you can. You might be able to score a great deal but stock will dwindle quickly.
If you have Welcome Rewards
You can use your Welcome Rewards until May 15th, 2023. Not surprisingly, you won’t be earning any reward on future purchases.
What if your baby registry is at buybuy Baby
According to buybuy Baby, “Your registry data is safe and you can still view your registry at this time. We expect to partner with an alternative platform where you will be able to transfer your data and complete your registry. We will provide details in the coming days.”
I would shift your registry to something else so you’re not stuck with baby gear you can’t return. Babylist is offering a $10 Babylist promo code for those who transfer their registries between April 26-May 10, 2023. What about buybuy Baby stores in Canada?
All 11 buybuy Baby locations will be closing permanently.
To Sum Up
It looks like buybuy Baby is another large retailer taken down by the shift in shopping habits. If you have rewards, gift cards or store credits, use them now. They might have some decent sales in the coming weeks, but keep in mind all sales will be final.
