If your house is anything like my house, it’s hard to satisfy everyone’s requests when ordering pizza – we’ve got a vegetarian, a meat-lover, a kiddo who loves pepperoni and peppers, and another kiddo who’s still learning to like anything beyond just cheese.
That’s why I thank my lucky stars for these English muffins pizzas. These adorable mini pizzas give everyone a little bit of what they want, plus they’re super helpful at encouraging picky eaters to try a bit of something new.
English muffin pizzas are so easy to make, freeze and reheat, making them perfect for school or packed lunches. And they’re healthier than most store-bought or restaurant pizza, so you’ll feel no mom-guilt about including them in your weekly meal plan.

Ingredients
- English Muffins: we are using this as a pizza base and you can use whichever English Muffin you prefer – whole wheat, regular, gluten-free, etc.
- Pizza Sauce: I used this amazing hidden veggie pizza sauce for these rollups, but you can use any pasta or pizza sauce you prefer. If you are using a store-bought pizza sauce and want to add in some veggies, then you can mix 1/4 cup shredded carrots or peppers into the sauce before spreading, or use this spinach basil pesto.
- Mozzarella: you can shred your own or use pre-shredded mozzarella from the store. I used pre-shredded cheese. You can also use an Italian cheese blend.
- Parmesan: optional, but is great to sprinkle on top.
- Toppings: you can use any topping you prefer. See below for lots of fun options and combinations.
Health Benefits of English Muffin Pizzas
These pizzas are a much healthier alternative to freezer or store-bought pizza as they will have much less sodium and preservatives.
- English muffins are an excellent source of carbohydrates, needed for energy, and if you’re using whole wheat, they provide fiber needed for healthy digestion.
- Pizza sauce made from tomatoes will be high in vitamins A and C and other antioxidants.
- Cheese provides calcium for bone strength.
- Any veggie toppings will contain vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Allergy Substitutions
- Gluten-Free: use a trusted brand of gluten-free English muffins.
- Dairy-Free: vegan cheeses have come a long way in their replication of taste, texture, and behavior (Melty! Bubbly! Stretchy!) so try plant-based mozzarella or parmesan-style shreds. If that doesn’t appeal, you can absolutely still have delicious pizzas sans cheese!






Step-by-Step Instructions
- Toast English Muffins: for a crispier crust, place the English muffins in the oven for a few minutes before adding your toppings.
- Spread Sauce: Schmear the English muffins with saucy goodness.
- Add the Cheese: Next, sprinkle on your cheese, avoiding clumps. Again, ‘even’ is the key. If you’re not using cheese, skip to your toppings.
- Toppings: Scatter the toppings evenly on top of the cheese.
- More Cheese: Sprinkle with a pinch of parmesan.
- Bake: Pop the English muffin pizzas into the oven and bake until golden.
- Done: Serve warm or set aside to come down to room temp for freezing.

Expert Tips
- These mini pizzas freeze so well! Simply flash freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet and pop it in the freezer for a couple of hours.
- If you’re watching sodium content for toddlers and younger kids, use cheese like fresh mozzarella, fresh ricotta, and goat cheese, as they contain less sodium than some traditional cheeses, like parmesan or pecorino romano. You might also want to serve ham, sausage, and pepperoni sparingly for toddlers, as these meats can be saltier.
- If you’ve got picky eaters, try setting up a pizza serving station where kids can choose the toppings and create their own pizza.
- Kids love to be creative and eat food that looks like something familiar – encourage them to use toppings to decorate their pizza with a smiley face, different shapes or letters, veggie rainbows, you name it!

How to Store and Freeze
You can store cooked English Muffin Pizzas in the fridge for up to 5 days or freezer for 2 months. Make sure to let them come down to room temperature before storing them in an airtight container or freezer bag.
To reheat, simply pop them into the microwave for 30-second intervals until warm. Or place them on a baking sheet and warm them in a preheated 350-degree F oven for 5-7 minutes.
