McKenna Teen Summary: 16 Years Old

Daily life and schedule for a 16 year old teen girl. Learn about common concerns that come up with the teenage group. This covers 15.75 years old through 16 years old. Read about recovering from injury, starting to drive, piercing ears, and learning the new sport of track.

This is a summary for McKenna from 15.75 years old to 16 years old.

    SLEEP

Sleep is good as always with nothing to report. She loves to sleep and will take a nap anytime she gets a chance.

    EAT

This is also good! Nothing new here.

    SCHOOL

School is good! She has finished over 2/3 of the school year and has done very well.

    INJURY

Her injury has been a slow and painful recovery process. As a reminder, she sprained her SC joint. She moved out of the sling and started physical therapy. She did lots of exercises and lots of things like needling, where they stick needles in the joint and run electricity through it. She has a super high pain tolerance and handled it all very well. Her physical therapist would go to do something and tell her, “Most people cry when I do this, so don’t feel bad if you cry.” She wouldn’t even flinch.

    TRACK

McKenna decided to try track this year. She has only been participating for a few weeks but has loved it! She has needed to get back into shape since she couldn’t do anything during her injury (she couldn’t even run). But she is quickly getting there and has dropped time at every track meet. The environment is super fun. Track can be as intense or as relaxing as you want it to be. She wants it to be just for fun, but she is also competitive so she works hard.

    DRIVING

She has been absolutely thrilled to get her driver’s license. We were at the DLD at 8:00 AM on her birthday to get it. She is super social and she is excited to be able to drive herself places. When your kids start driving, it is wise to set some rules, standards, and expectations. Get my free copy here:

    EARS PIERCED

During this time period, McKenna got her ears pierced. She has wanted them pierced for a long time, but it is hard to find a window that works with sports (since most sports don’t allow earrings in). Her injury was the perfect time for it. I haven’t given my kids an age when they are allowed to pierce their ears. None of the girls every asked if they could until they were definitely old enough I was okay with it. I even asked the girls at different times, “Would you like to pierce your ears?” and they would tell me no. Kaitlyn did it at 17 and now McKenna close to 16. Brinley, who is 12, still has no interest.

    SAN DIEGO TRIP

During this time period, we went on a trip as a family to San Diego, California. It was a lot of fun! You can read about it in San Diego California Travel Tips for Families!

    PIANO

Piano is good! I would say piano is something she has some enjoyment in. She loves music. But piano is not her passion. She will definitely be glad she can play, but she doesn’t put in more time than is necessary.

    SCHEDULE

Here is a typical school day

6:40 AM — Get up and get ready for school
8:00 AM — School starts. School then track practice
5:00 PM — Get home from school
    10:00 PM — In bed
