How to get your free Target baby registry welcome kit (and what’s included!)

Target offers the highest-value free welcome kit of all the major retailers with its baby registry servicesOpens a new window. As of when this article was last updated, it was promoted as being worth $100. The catch? It can be tough to actually get your hands on a welcome kit.

Target encourages expecting parents to stop by the Guest Services department when they’re in the store to get their free welcome kit, but parents say it can be difficult to find a store that actually has one in stock.

Want to make sure you snag a welcome kit? We’ve got you covered.

How to get your free Target baby registry welcome kit

    1. Create a Target baby registry.Opens a new window You’ll need to enter info like your due date and where you want gifts delivered.
    2. To pick up your welcome kit in store, first call your local store to see if they have any. Target is notorious for being out of stock when it comes to its free welcome kits, so don’t skip this step! One mom in our community suggests trying smaller, less-busy Target stores in your area, which may be more likely to have them.
    3. If your local Target has welcome kits, visit the Guest Services desk. There, you’ll have to present your registry barcode, which you can find on the “Free Welcome Kit” section of your registry homepage. You can print the bardcode beforehand or log into your account when you arrive at Guest Services.
    4. To get your welcome kit shipped to you, sign into your Target account online. Go to “Offers and Benefits” and “Get welcome kit.” You should see an option to “Ship it,” which will add the kit to your cart. Note that to get free shipping on your kit, you do need to spend $35 (but it can be anything – doesn’t have to be baby stuff!).

Target says its welcome kits are worth $100, but keep in mind that this will likely be partially based on the coupons that are included with the kit (there’s almost certainly not $100 worth of product in it). The contents will vary from kit to kit, but as of spring 2022, one moms said that her bag contained samples of:

    • Breast milk storage bags
    • Nursing pads
    • Stretch mark lotion
    • A lactation smoothie
    • Nose wipes
    • Baby laundry detergent
    • Two types of diapers
    • Three types of wipes
    • Gripe water
    • Baby shampoo
    • A bottle
    • Coupons

It’s nice that this free welcome kit offers a few options when it comes to products like diapers and wipes, as it can be helpful to try out different ones to see which you (and your baby!) prefer.

Once you’ve set up your Target baby registryOpens a new window and ordered your free welcome kit, don’t forget to link your Target registry to Registry BuilderOpens a new window so that you can manage all of your registries in one place for easy sharing.
