The holidays are here, which means that families everywhere are making their plans, rushing to pick up groceries for Thanksgiving dinner, scanning social media and websites for Black Friday deals, gearing up for a month of celebrations, those seasonal TV specials and…next thing you know, it’s January: the house is a mess, kids are going back to school and you’re left to wonder where all that time went.
We get so lost in our activities and family functions that it’s understandably easy to lose sight of what this season is truly about: gratitude, generosity, and good will. And that’s why Giving Tuesday is so important.
Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving here in the U.S., which is coming up on December 3, 2024. Started in 2012, GivingTuesday, the organization born from this idea, helps coordinate formal events and activities across the country and around the world to promote volunteerism and charitable work.
At Horizon, we’re committed to giving back to our communities every day through educating young children and providing them with safe spaces to grow and thrive for a lifetime. And we’re proud to be supported by volunteers and partner companies who help make our facilities better places for our students and staff.
Part of making our centers better places includes our ability to provide scholarships to qualified students. For this Giving Tuesday, we encourage you to slow down from the holiday hustle and consider making a donation to the Mary Smith Scholarship Fund.
Named for Horizon’s founder, who 46 years ago saw a need and laid the groundwork for the amazing network of centers, teachers, employees, and students we have today throughout Lorain and western Cuyahoga Counties, the Mary Smith Scholarship helps offset the cost of our popular Summer Camp programming, which features nutritious snacks and meals, off-site activities and field trips, and memory-making experiences that inspire and enrich our children all summer long.
