    Favorite Apple Yogurt (2-Ingredients)

Stir together this simple, yet so flavorful, Apple Yogurt for a quick baby snack, toddler breakfast, or even breakfast for you. (It’s so good topped with granola or a sprinkle of hemp seeds.) Here’s an easy method plus storage tips.

    Apple Yogurt

This yogurt is one that I’ve offered my kids from the very beginning of their journey with solids because it’s easy to keep the ingredients on hand, and it takes only seconds to make. The base recipe doesn’t have added sugar because the applesauce is really flavorful on its own.

Yogurt is a great food for kids because it’s rich in calcium, probiotics, and protein—and it’s a really versatile base for adding flavor.

In this version, I use applesauce to add the apple flavor because it’s the fastest option. I have a few variations to use other forms of apples so you can do what sounds best to you.

    Ingredients You Need

Here’s a look at what you need for this recipe so you know what to have on hand.

    ingredients in Apple Yogurt
    • Plain yogurt: I prefer whole milk yogurt, but low fat or vanilla is totally fine, too. You can use regular or Greek style. The only difference is the thickness.
    • Applesauce: I usually use a smooth unsweetened variety, but you can use the type you prefer. You can use homemade applesauce or store bought.
    • Optional ingredients: Cinnamon, hemp seeds, splash of vanilla, sprinkle of granola.

    Ingredient Substitutions

You can use plain nondairy yogurt if you need to make this without dairy. Look for options from Siggis or Kite Hill or any that you prefer.

You can trade in Stewed Apples or Sauteed Apples if you prefer.

Leave the apples chunky or you can blend up the whole mixture to form a smooth yogurt.

Use homemade Applesauce or store bought.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do apples and yogurt go together?

The mellow flavors of both apples and yogurt make a great pair. And applesauce adds nice flavor and ample natural sweetness to the yogurt—and helps to balance the yogurt if it’s very tart.

What kind of apples are best for this recipe?

I prefer to use applesauce since it’s quick and easy. You can also use Stewed Apples or Sauted Apples made from a variety of apple types such as Pink Lady, Fuji, or Granny Smith.

Is this a good baby yogurt?

Yes, it’s a great baby food option, whether served on a spoon or in a reusable pouch. (You can even stir in instant oats to make a fast Overnight Oats variation.)

    How to Store

You can store in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also store them in reusable baby food pouches and serve them right in the pouch if that’s easier for you.

    Best Tips for Success

    • Use plain whole milk yogurt if possible (little kids need fat for brain development). If you have low fat or vanilla, that’s fine, too.
    • You can use regular or Greek yogurt.
    • Add in vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, or hemp seeds for more flavor and nutrition if desired. Finely chopped walnuts are a nice option, too.
    • Serve with a spoon or in a reusable pouch.
    • Try our favorite Banana Yogurt as a flavor variation.
    • Trade in Stewed Apples or Sauted Apples and serve chunky or blend in a blender before mixing together with the yogurt.
    • Top with granola if desired. Crush it up for kids under about 2 or so.
    • Sweeten to taste as desired with honey (for kids over age 1) or maple syrup. Or a little sprinkle of brown sugar.
