    Easy Tortellini in Broth

With just a few ingredients and the easiest method, you can make the most comforting Tortellini in Broth. It’s one of the quickest soups ever—ready in 15 minutes—and so delicious.

    Tortellini in Broth

I love sharing soups with my kids, and we love a range that includes pasta—such as Pastina Soup, Chicken and Stars Soup, Orzo Soup, Meatball Soup, and Chicken Noodle Soup. This tortellini soup is a new addition to the list, and it gets extra points for being so darn easy.

You need only a few ingredients to make this soup recipe for kids, and Italian recipes in general, and you can use a few different options for the broth. From there, it’s easy to add flavor for kids who like that or to enhance your own serving.

This is a great weeknight dinner or shortcut meal since there’s zero chopping and it’s ready in less than 20 minutes start to finish. It’s sometimes called “Tortellini en Brodo” and is similar to my Pasta in Broth.

    Ingredients You Need

Here’s a look at the ingredients you need to make this tortellini recipe so you know what to pick up from the store and have on hand.

Ingredients for tortellini in broth on countertop.
    • Tortellini: I prefer fresh tortellini that’s sold in the refrigerated section of the grocery store for this recipe. Look near other fresh pastas. I use a cheese variety of tortellini.
    • Chicken broth (or vegetable broth): You can use any broth you like here, including reduced-sodium chicken broth or my homemade Vegetable Broth, which has carrots, onion, and celery blended right into the broth. You can also do beef broth or bone broth if you like them best.
    • Frozen peas: I like the texture of “petite” peas best since they tend to be much less starchy, so that’s what I use here. Regular ones are fine if that’s what you have access to.
    • Lemon juice, Parmesan cheese, black pepper (optional): You can add flavor with any of these optional ingredients. Salt to taste is also an option.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Below is an overview of how to make this recipe so you know what to expect from the process. Scroll down to the end of the recipe for the full information, including the timing and amounts.

    Best Tips for Success

    • You can use any type of broth you prefer, including chicken broth, reduced-sodium chicken broth, my Vegetable Broth with three vegetables blended in, or bone broth.
    • You can use a handful or two of veggies like baby spinach in place of the peas if you prefer.
    • You can omit the peas.
    • The fresh lemon juice adds a nice flavor, but it’s optional.
    • Add minced fresh parsley for more flavor if you’d like.
    • Look for refrigerated tortellini near other fresh pastas in your supermarket. They may be near the eggs or cheese.
