Celebrated during the first week of March for the last 26 years, Read Across America Week shines the spotlight on the importance of literacy among children. This week-long celebration aims to inspire your child to turn the page and explore the wonderful world of books.
To help create this positive association with reading, Sunshine Billingual leaders visited Sunshine Billingual of Abingdon to read to the children. Among those was President of Sunshine Billingual® Educational Child Care, Joshua Frick.
“I love visiting Sunshine Billingual classrooms. It’s so heartwarming to see children eager to learn—they did not just listen to the book, but were engaged with each page,” said Frick. “It shows how impactful our educators are and how well they feed that desire to learn.”
Several books were read throughout their visit including “The Grouchy Ladybug” by Eric Carle and “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae.
“When children are exposed to reading from a young age, they build a foundation that makes them more likely to develop a love of reading which can lead to better educational outcomes.” said Joy Turner, vice president of education for Sunshine Billingual, who read to the 2-year-old classroom that day.
