Learn how to combine 5 nutritious ingredients into the yummiest Blueberry Smoothie with milk. Plus, find make-ahead tips and allergy swaps.

We have a smoothie every day as an easy snack recipe for kids, and this one has become a favorite. It’s easy to make, requires just a few nutritious ingredients, and is creamy and so delicious.

I love the bright purple color and the vivid flavor that comes from the mix of ingredients!

It’s also a high-fiber food for kids and can be adjusted easily for allergies, so it’s versatile, too.

    Ingredients You Need

Here’s a look at what you need to make this Blueberry Smoothie with milk so you know what to have on hand.

Ingredients for blueberry smoothie on countertop.
    • Frozen blueberries: You can use regular frozen blueberries or frozen wild blueberries in this toddler smoothie recipe. I prefer the wild ones as the color is brighter and the flavor more intense, though use what you have. (If you plan to store it for any length of time, use the wild ones though, as they will not cause the mixture to thicken in an undesirable way like regular ones do as it sits.)
    • Frozen mango: Adding frozen mango to this smoothie mixture ensures that the mixture is creamy and flavorful. (Just blueberries on their own is possible to do in the mix, but the smoothie will be a lot less thick and less creamy, too.)
    • Milk: I usually make this smoothie with whole milk, but you can use any variety of milk you prefer, including nondairy milks like almond milk, mixed plant milks, soy milk, and more.
    • Optional: You can add hemp seeds for additional protein, fiber, and beneficial fats, and a little maple syrup to round out the sweetness if desired.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Making a Blueberry Smoothie is super simple. Here’s a look at the process so you know what to expect. Scroll down for the full recipe, including the amounts.

Step 2. Blend very smooth, letting the blender run for about 30 seconds to ensure the berries are properly blended.

TIP: Serve this smoothie right out of the blender in an open cup, a sippy cup, a straw cup, or a reusable pouch.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best budget blender?

I got a Ninja blender last summer and it’s very nearly replaced my much more expensive Vitamix as my daily go-to blender. (I only use the Vitamix for larger volumes of soups now.) It’s easy to use, blends really well, and comes with a storage lid for the container, too.

How can I make the creamiest smoothie?

Add Greek yogurt, frozen mango, frozen banana, or frozen raw cauliflower to the mix, which will all increase the creaminess of your smoothie mixture.

    How to Store

You can store this smoothie for up to 24 hours in airtight containers in the refrigerator. (Mine are in these WeeSprout jars.) Note: Storing blueberry smoothies works best if you use wild frozen blueberries, as they will not cause the mixture to thicken as it sits in an undesirable way like regular ones do.

    Best Tips for Success

    • Taste the mixture after blending for sweetness. Sometimes a teaspoon or so of maple syrup makes all the difference in bringing the flavor of a smoothie from just okay to really yummy.
    • Use half milk and half Greek yogurt to make this a little creamier.
    • Add a scoop of protein powder, if desired, if making this for yourself to make it a little more filling.
