    Step 1

Step 1 for making shaving cream paint is to put shaving cream into a plastic cup.
Fill about 1/3 of your cup with shaving cream foam.

Take the cap off the shaving cream and have the kids squirt enough foam into the plastic cup so that it’s about 1/3 full.

Craft tip: We used 9oz plastic cups for this project.

    Step 2

Step 2 for making shaving cream paint is to add tempera paint to the shaving cream.
Add fun tempera paint colors to the shaving foam.

    Step 3

Step 3 - Shaving cream painting - start painting on paper with homemade shaving cream paint with paint brush. Shown is a scene underwater with fish starting to be painted
Grab a paintbrush and start painting with your colorful shaving cream.

Start painting and making beautiful art with your colorful shaving foam. It will be a thick consistency as you can see above. We dabbed it on to create the seaweed and did a couple of layers to make the fish.

Use different sized paintbrushes , foam brushes, and even fingers for painting to see how the different methods turn out.

Craft tip: Make sure to put paper down before the kids start painting and have them wear an old shirt or art smock. Tempera paints don’t always wash out. If you are unsure whether yours will, cover up first.

    Perks of shavig cream painting

    • You can adapt the consistency making your paint good for either precision painting with a brush or finger painting.
    • It makes the paint go farther and hence you get more bang for your buck.
    • Nearly impossible to spill! You can hold the container of paint upside-down and the shaving cream will cause it to stick to the sides of the container. You won’t spill a drop!
    • Diluting the paint makes the colors more brilliant, almost neon, AND they are easier to clean/wipe up.
    • Your kids and artwork will smell good!
