Morning Pick-Me-Ups to Start the Day Energized

Getting the kids up in the morning can be a daily battle.

Ah, the morning routine. Some kids are the “up and at ‘em” types, but many sleepy kids are too comfortable under the covers. No matter what we try to do to get them up, it seems like a back-and-forth compromise that eats up those precious morning minutes.

With some creativity, you can get the kids out of bed without the hassle. Sounds impossible? When kids have something exciting to look forward to, they’ll be eager to embark on the day’s to-dos.

These three ideas below will set your kids in motion for a day full of possibilities.

    Create a Kid-Friendly Breakfast Bar

Kids can get bored of the same breakfast day after day, so make it more interesting by creating a breakfast “buffet” style. Set out a bowl of their favorite cereal and smaller bowls filled with tasty toppings like raisins, carob chips, nuts, diced and sliced fruit, granola, and pumpkin seeds. The kids can mix and match, making their ideal breakfast bowl far from boring.

Try yogurt. You can do something similar with a bowl of yogurt and add even more topping ideas, such as honey, maple syrup, and cereal bits, as one of the toppings this time.

Get Moving to Start the Morning

Morning exercise gets the blood flowing. Spend 10-15 minutes doing basic jumping jacks, marching in place, and light stretching. Weather permitting, get outside to take a walk or ride a bike.

Getting into the habit of regular exercise as part of the morning routine creates a life-long pattern for good health.

    Pump Up the Volume!

When it’s time to start the morning routine, play some of the kids’ favorite songs to energize them. The upbeat tunes will keep things moving so you’re not late for school.

You can create a morning playlist with the kids, choosing songs everyone loves. Change up the playlist each week for variety. Check out these tips from The PE Specialist.

Do you have any tricks to get your kids up in the morning?
