Easy Strawberries and Cream – Yummy Toddler Food

With just 5 simple ingredients and the creamiest texture, this Strawberries and Cream recipe is a delicious dessert or snack. It even has extra nutrition and can be made ahead of time!

I love the simplicity of strawberries and cream, but wanted to make a version without the intense sweetness from sweetened condensed milk, which is commonly included in other recipes. This version results in a similar creamy consistency and is plenty sweet. But it has a more cream forward flavor, which is so delicious when paired with fresh berries.

The beauty of this recipe is that you can make it in minutes, you can sweeten it to your liking, and you can even make it ahead of time. It’s a great dessert during strawberry season or a simple option for any other time of the year.

(You may also like my Strawberry Popsicles, Strawberry Sauce, Strawberry Frozen Yogurt, and Strawberry Oatmeal Bars if you have more berries to use up!)

    Ingredients You Need

Here’s a look at the ingredients you need to make this Strawberries and Cream recipe so you know what to have on hand.

Ingredients for strawberries and cream on countertop.
    • Heavy whipping cream: For this recipe, I prefer to start with heavy whipping cream and quickly whip it into whipped cream. This way, we get the fluffy texture without added sugar. To save a step, you can start with whipped cream from the store or even whipped topping.
    • Greek yogurt: Plain whole milk Greek yogurt in this mixture adds creaminess and richness as well as protein and calcium. This pairs with the whipping cream to create a silky cream layer in the dessert.
    • Vanilla extract: You can use pure or artificial vanilla extract to enhance the flavor of the strawberries and cream.
    • Honey: I like to add light sweetness to this recipe with honey, though you can also use powdered sugar. I prefer my version to be less sweet than the classic, so the cream flavor comes through and the flavor of the berries provides the main source of sweetness.
    • Strawberries: Fresh strawberries, with the stems and leaves removed, work best in this recipe. Look for berries that are bright red and flavorful.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as fresas con crema?

The Spanish name for strawberries and cream is fresas con crema and it is a very similar recipe and is a common Mexican no-baked dessert. Many other recipes use evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, or sour cream in the mix. And some may have a more pourable cream consistency than others.

Can I make this with sour cream or sweetened condensed milk?

You can experiment with substitutions, though we really love the combination the way that we have it.

Is Strawberries and Cream a healthy snack?

This recipe is a good source of fiber, Vitamin C, protein, and calcium, making it a nutritious and delicious snack or dessert.

    How to Store

Transfer the mixture to an airtight container or containers and seal. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours. You can keep it longer than that, though know that the berries may start to brown where they were cut.

    Best Tips for Success

    • To make a more pourable version of Strawberries and Cream, add ¼ cup heavy whipping cream or heavy cream to the bowl with the whipped cream and yogurt and stir it all together.
    • Add fresh lemon zest for a bright burst of flavor.
    • Slice strawberries instead of dicing them finely if you prefer.
    • Use a stand mixer with a whisk attachment instead of using a blender if that’s easier to create stiff peaks in the cream.
    • Gently fold the whipped cream into the yogurt to maintain the light and airy texture.

    • Add the whipping cream to a blender and pulse a few times to make whipped cream. Typically, this process takes 30-45 seconds. Stop as soon as you see that the cream has thickened and the blade is no longer moving.
    • Transfer the whipped cream to a medium bowl with the yogurt, vanilla, and honey and stir very gently to combine.

    • Serve cream mixture in a bowl or jars topped with the berries.

    • Store in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 24 hours. The berries may start to brown after that.
    • Use powdered sugar in place of the honey if desired.
    • Add crumbled vanilla wafer or shortbread cookies on top to add more texture.
