Finding out whether you’re having a boy or a girl can be one of the most exciting parts of pregnancy. While some families wait until their little one is born to find out the gender, many mamas-to-be anxiously wait for the 20-week ultrasound appointment to confirm what they’ll be having. Friends and family always want to know so everyone can plan and get you the best stuff possible for your new baby. There are so many fun options to consider when you plan a gender reveal, and the ideas below are sure to get your creative juices flowing!

Babies are the ultimate reason to celebrate as much as possible. While having a baby shower about a month or two before the baby is born is the norm, you can plan a gender-reveal party anytime from about halfway through your pregnancy until the end of it. We have some great gender-reveal ideas that you could even combine with a traditional baby shower to make a unique party celebrating your little one! Whether you want to reveal your baby’s gender by throwing a huge bash, sending announcements to your loved ones, or sharing the news on social media, here are 31 ideas for a special gender reveal:

Theme ideas for gender-reveal parties are limitless — everything from your personal interests and hobbies to the current season or a particular aesthetic is fair game. Choosing a theme is a great way to tie the entire party together, including invitations, decorations, games, and food. Check out these cute themes:

What could be more fitting than a lullaby theme? This idea couldn’t be any dreamier, featuring adorable cloud and star decorations and sweet treats (think marshmallows, vanilla cupcakes, etc.). It’s perfect if you want something neutral and understated that’s still festive and elegant. And when you reveal your baby’s gender, it’ll add a great pop of color to the party!

This “We Can Bearly Wait!” theme is a fun play on words and lends itself well to super cute teddy bear decorations. You could also do another animal pun, such as “Waddle It Be?” (duck theme) or “What Will It Bee?” (bee theme). Or choose another adorable animal like penguins, bunnies, or kittens to base your party decorations and invitations around.

A fruit-themed party is perfect for a spring or summer gender reveal. You could do oranges, pineapples, watermelon, etc. — really any fruit that’s in season and is as sweet as your new babe! This mama went all out with a Cuties-themed party featuring orange balloons, “little cutie” cupcake toppers, and fruit platters. Strawberries would also be a super cute theme because you can dip them in pink- and blue-colored chocolate to serve as treats.

If you’re planning a gender-reveal party during the colder months, a Gingerbread theme may be the way to go! You can make a gingerbread house out of cardboard like this mama did to reveal her baby’s gender, or you could build an edible one to use as decor (and eat afterward, of course). Besides gingerbread cookies, you can serve your favorite winter treats, like hot chocolate (hello, cocoa bar!) and candy canes.

If you and your partner are sports fans, you may want to consider a sports-themed gender-reveal party! This gender-reveal baseball explodes with blue or pink powder (with an option to add confetti) when struck with a bat! If you’re more into football, check out this football that expels blue or pink powder when kicked. You could also get a gender-reveal golf ball, basketball, soccer ball, etc., for this theme.

There are several options for a clothing theme: you could do “Tutus or Ties?” “Mustaches or Bows?” or “Heels or Wheels?” (Even though mustaches and wheels aren’t clothing, you get the point!) For the tutus and ties theme, you can use these cupcake toppers and this sweet banner, or for the mustaches or bows theme, you could use this confetti. Like the couple in this TikTok, you could have someone prepare a small dresser with pink or blue clothing/accessories to open as the cutest gender reveal!

While this last party theme isn’t technically a “theme” per se, it’s definitely something to consider for a gender-reveal party. If you want a small, low-key celebration, you can plan an intimate gathering like this TikTok. It could be between only you and your partner (and current kiddos, if any) and involve a simple cake reveal. This is a sweet and budget-friendly option if you want to savor the moment alone and later share pictures and videos with family and friends.

These colorful desserts are perfect to cut or break open during a gender-reveal party:

    1. Candy-Filled Cake

A popular gender-reveal cake idea is a pink or blue cake. The cake will be filled with either blue or pink candy, and there are a variety of ways to do this! You could color the frosting, color the cake itself, or even fill the cake with M&Ms or sprinkles that will spill out when you cut it.

Similarly, a gender-reveal cupcake can be a great idea, especially for a big party! Your guests can each bite into their treat to learn your baby’s gender. Tie the cake or cupcakes into your theme to make it even more fun. You can customize everything from the liners to the frosting color to the cupcake toppers to your theme!

Gender-reveal cookies are great if you don’t want a cake. These awesome gender-reveal cookies can do the announcing for you! They’re so cutely decorated, and when you bite into them, everyone will learn whether you’re having a boy or a girl by the color in the middle. You could also get these diaper cookie cutters and fill your cookies with either pink or blue sprinkles.

Another fun idea is a breakable chocolate heart that you get to smash open! This customizable heart is made from Ghirardelli chocolate, and you can have it filled with either Jelly Belly’s or M&M’s. You can also ask for up to two wooden hammers so that you and your partner can break it open together!

Gender-Reveal Ideas for Big Moments With Friends and Family

Whether you’re throwing a party or having an intimate gathering with your closest loved ones, these ideas can reveal your baby’s gender in a big way:

A large box with alternating blue and pink stripes is perfect for unique gender reveal ideas. The words Boy or Girl? are playfully written in yellow on the sides, adding an exciting touch to the anticipation.

For this gender-reveal method, you basically have a box prepared with pink or blue helium-filled balloons. (This particular box also comes with pink and blue confetti!) When the lid is opened, the balloons will escape, revealing your baby’s gender. This is a really bold and festive way to announce the gender of your new babe!

Two people stand outdoors holding a large balloon with Boy or Girl? written on it, showcasing one of the delightful gender reveal ideas. The balloon is adorned with pink and blue tassels in an open field, with trees softly dotting the background.

The gender-reveal balloon pop involves a balloon filled with pink or blue confetti. When the big moment comes, you pop it for all to see! This jumbo balloon has an adorable tail that you can personalize in colors of your choice. Or you can have your baby’s name printed on this balloon, which is perfect if you have a name chosen already!

A couple embraces outdoors near a display featuring white, pink, and blue balloons with the words OH BABY. Pink smoke and confetti burst above them in a joyful gender reveal idea. A backdrop of trees and a white fence adds to the celebrations charm.

Confetti and powder is another excellent way to announce the gender of your baby. You can use cannons or poppers to get that perfect explosion of color. Make sure to have a camera ready because this is a great photo op!

Amid shredded paper, a small bottle of Korbel champagne complements two martini glasses containing pink and blue concoctions—ideal for unique gender reveal ideas. Nearby, cotton candy glitter bomb ornaments add a whimsical touch to the celebratory scene.

These cotton candy glitter bombs are so much fun to surprise your guests. Drop the soft cotton candy into a drink, have them swirl it around with a straw, and the gender will be revealed to them. Such a fun and delicious idea!

shooting target gender reveal showing the target and blue confetti versus pink confetti exploding to reveal a baby's gender

This one is another fun option for a gender-reveal idea. If you or your family are into shooting, you can use these skeet shooting targets with powder and confetti to reveal the gender! (Luckily, the powder washes off with water in case anyone gets pink or blue on them.)

Here are some fun options for gender-reveal games that your party guests can participate in:

A gender reveal board filled with black balloons lined up in rows with the text "What will baby be? Pop to see." There's an image of a blue balloon with "He" in the middle and a pink balloon with "She" in the middle.

This one is a great option! Set up a “pop the belly” game with black balloons. Make sure one has pink or blue paint or confetti inside while the rest have white, and secure them all to a board. Then, have your party guests see who can pop the gender-revealing belly first! This game is best for the outdoors since it can get super messy.

Baby gender reveal scratch-off cards with a pink envelope. The card has a white background with a blue and pink balloons and flowers. It features the Text

You can get your guests involved in the gender reveal with scratch-off cards! These cards are already made for you and can be customized with your little one’s name (if you have one chosen already) or with your last name. While this idea can be great to do at a party, it could also work as a long-distance gender reveal to send to relatives and friends in the mail.

Framed print titled Old Wives Tales: What Will Baby Be? in elegant cursive, perfect for gender reveal ideas. It features columns for boy and girl predictions based on various symptoms and conditions. The gold frame is complemented by a vase of white flowers on a pristine white surface.

Have your guests try their luck with an old wives’ tales gender game. This printable is a cute option that you can download and have guests fill out — and it has a larger size that you can turn into a big sign for the game. It will be fun for everyone to guess what your baby will be by which of these hold true!

This baby Jeopardy template comes with six fun categories, including things like nursery rhymes and baby hacks. The last category is customizable, so you can change the questions to fit your unique personality. Just make sure to include a question that will reveal the sex of the baby for Final Jeopardy!

Two gender reveal crossword puzzles labeled Pregnancy Crosswords rest on a wooden surface, surrounded by teddy bears, paper airplanes, and balloons. Perfect gender reveal ideas, one puzzle reveals BOY and the other GIRL, featuring charming pink and blue themes.

Another fun game to do with your guests is a word search! You can customize this printable, especially if you want the word list to fit your party theme. As guests find all the words, it will reveal either a hidden “GIRL” or “BOY” in the grid. You could even make it a competition to see who can reveal the gender the quickest!

A Gender Reveal Friendly Feud Game image featuring 64 cards with prompts and scores, ideal for gender reveal ideas. Examples include naming animals in children's books or items in a baby's nursery. Text is accented with playful pink and teal elements.

For some more friendly competition, you could do a Family Feud-style game for your gender reveal. You can host the game yourself or ask a friend or family member to lead it, then split your guests into teams and take turns answering the baby-themed questions. This is such a fun way to get everyone to participate in the big reveal!

If you’re going to announce your baby’s gender through photos or social media, there are some really fun gender-reveal photoshoot ideas you could do:

A tan picture frame containing a sonogram sits beside an animal plush with striped white and gray curtains in the background. The top of the frame reads "It's a Girl" with a heart. The bottom reads "Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your Hearts -- Winnie the Pooh." The left side of the frame features an image of a bunny in overalls holding heart-shaped balloons, and the right side features the text "Baby's 1st pictures" in a cloud surrounded by stars.

Sonogram gender announcements are classic and so fun! There are a few ways to announce gender through this method. You could attach a pink or blue bow tie to the photo itself. Another thing you could do is put the sonogram picture in a cute frame like this one. You can pick either the boy or girl option.

A flat lay image features a white baby onesie with the text Oh Boy! in black, perfect for gender reveal ideas. Its surrounded by knitted fabric, a string of wooden beads, eucalyptus leaves, brown baby shoes, and beige patterned shorts. A sticker reads SHIPS SAME DAY.

You can get your little one’s wardrobe started with one of these fun onesies. This idea is a cute way to announce your baby’s gender. Hold up the onesie and snap a cute photo!

Pick your favorite treat and make it pink or blue on the outside or inside. You could do this with so many things — cake, cotton candy, cupcakes, ice cream, bubble gum, M&Ms, etc. Snap a photo of you chowing down on one of these, or do a cute spread like this Instagram post. Not only will you get a great gender-reveal photo, but you’ll also get to enjoy a tasty treat!

A person in a light blue dress holds a Ready to Pop champagne bottle and two empty flutes, perfect for creative gender reveal ideas. The scene unfolds outdoors on a lush grassy surface, inviting anticipation and celebration.

Champagne — non-alcoholic, of course — would also make a great prop for gender-reveal pictures! Ready to Pop has mini and full-size non-alcoholic champagne in different-colored labels. (Use our code BABYCHICK20 to get 20% off your Ready to Pop order!)

Gender-Reveal Ideas for Long-Distance Friends and Family

If you can’t be with your relatives or friends to share the news, you could send them something special that will tell them your baby’s gender:

    1. Gender-Reveal Candle

A lit candle with a wooden wick stands on a surface, adding warmth to your gender reveal ideas. The candle is in a beige container with a label that reads he or she? and is complemented by a matching lid beside it. Inside, the wax glows light pink, setting the perfect ambiance for the occasion.

This gender-reveal candle will melt down a bit and reveal the gender color beneath the layer of white wax. (It will show blue for a boy and pink for a girl.) Made out of natural coconut and apricot wax, this candle is a cute way to get your loved ones involved in the fun from a distance. Your recipients will also get to enjoy the light, delicious vanilla cake scent — very festive!

Two images side by side offer charming gender reveal ideas: The left features a white box with blue knitted baby shoes and the text Its a boy, adorned with white roses. The right displays a similar box, this time with pink knitted baby shoes and the message Its a girl, also surrounded by delicate white roses.

Send your loved ones a “booties in a box” care package to reveal whether you’re having a boy or a girl. This cute package features booties of your color choice and a sweet message. This one is especially great to send grandparents-to-be.

A wooden puzzle, perfect for gender reveal ideas, announces Baby Marshall, Its A Boy! June 2025 with decorative hearts and foliage. Placed on a wooden surface, its surrounded by green leaves and pink flowers.

Another great idea is to reveal the sex of your baby by sending out puzzles. You can choose either the boy puzzle or the girl puzzle. (If you have other children, this option can also be a lot of fun to show them whether they’re having a brother or sister!)

Two red envelopes labeled Pull Me, with pink and blue boxes featuring stork illustrations above them, offer creative gender reveal ideas. Pink and blue confetti bursts from the tops of the envelopes, urging you to stop guessing and just pull the tab.

For something with a little more dramatic flair, consider sending out confetti cards! This one comes in versions for a girl and for a boy. Your recipients will surely be surprised by the burst of pink or blue confetti when they open your card (so this might not be the best option for the faint of heart!).

Four smartphones showcase creative gender reveal ideas: the first displays Boy or Girl? over pink and blue clouds, the second counts down 5, the third reveals It's a, and the fourth joyfully announces Girl surrounded by pink clouds.

If snail mail isn’t your thing, send your friends and family a gender-reveal video instead! You could get creative and make your own video or download a premade one to share the news. This downloadable video features a countdown with music. It’s a cute option if you want a quick way to spread the word to your loved ones.

We hope these gender-reveal ideas help you pick and build your theme around something you love. Gender reveals can be whatever you want them to be — the options are limitless! The most important thing is having fun celebrating your new baby with your friends and family. 🙂
