Is Minted’s Membership Program Worth It?

    Share Facebook Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp

Minted is probably best known for their wedding invitations, birth announcements and holiday cards, but they also offer an array of art, home decor, and stationery created by a global community of independent artists.

They have a membership program that offers discounts, free shipping, and a gift box from Minted. I’m crunching the numbers to see if it’s worth it and who would get the most bang for their buck.

How does Minted’s membership program work?

It costs $38 a year to become a member. After that, you get 30% off holiday cards, 20% off fine art, stationery and gifts, free standard shipping, and a limited edition gift box. Anything you order will be automatically discounted in your cart as long as you’re a member.

What do you get with your membership?

Some nice perks come with this subscription, and here’s how they break down.

    ✅ 30% off Holiday Cards

The most I see Minted offer around Holiday Cards is around Black Friday for 20%, so this is a good deal right off the bat. Using 50 cards as an example, you’d save around $30 – $40 versus the $20 – $30 you’d save with their juiciest discount code. (This can sometimes cover the cost of the membership alone.) Of course, this depends on the cards you’re getting and how many, but you get the idea. This deep discount can be used once during the year.

Welcome Offers: New members get 30% off birth announcements using code BABYMM30 or 30% off graduation cards using code GRADMM30

    ✅ 20% off Fine Art

Fine Art is almost always excluded from Minted codes, so this is a nice perk if you’re on the hunt for personalized nursery prints or something unique for your living room. Wall murals also fall into this category and you can save some serious coin if you want to do something spectacular in your space. You can use your discount as many times as you want.

    ✅ 20% off Stationery

Birth Announcements, Thank You Cards, class Valentine’s Day cards, Greeting Cards, Baby Shower Invitations, etc., all fall under stationery, so there are many ways to save during the year, and there is no limit on how many times you can use the discount. Photo Art and Minted’s super popular Heart Snapshot Mix also fall into this category.

    ✅ 20% off Gifts

Personalized totes, journals, custom calendars, gift tags, and clothing name labels are all 20% off with your membership. So you can get a discount on any Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, back-to-school stuff, teacher gifts, etc., all year. There is no limit on how many times you can use this discount.

    ✅ Limited-Edition Gift Box

Get a gift box of handpicked goodies each year ($160 value), including greeting cards, gift wrap essentials, and more. Frankly, I’d spend $38 just to get the gift.

    ✅ Free Standard Shipping

Standard 5-day shipping costs between $3.95 to $9.95, but that fee is waived with your membership. It applies to all orders in the U.S. and can be applied to every order throughout the year.

    Details to note:

    • Any sales or discounts can’t be applied to purchasing the $38 membership.
    • Your 30% off + free shipping on holiday cards discount can be used once within your membership year.
    • You can’t use the discount  items sold and shipped by third-party sellers. So, you can’t use it on something like a custom portrait created by an independent artist.
    • You can’t combine or stack your membership discount with any other offer.
    • Free standard shipping only applies to the U.S.
    • Your discount doesn’t apply to tax (makes sense).

    Can you cancel your membership?

Yep. Your Minted membership program will auto-renew on the 1-year anniversary of your sign-up date. You can cancel your membership by turning off the auto-renew of your subscription in your membership account. You can even do this right after you sign up if you are worried about forgetting. They also send an email before auto-renewing, so you’re not surprised by the renewal.

    My little experiment

I decided to pretend I was expecting a baby this year (I’m also pretending I live in California in a beach house with a lemon tree).

Over a year, if I bought 50 of these foil-pressed birth announcements, 50 of these Christmas cards, and a Heart Snapshot Mix for my mom on Mother’s Day (because she has the most beautiful grandbaby on the planet, of course), I would save around $100 if I belonged to the Minted membership program.

These savings don’t factor in a welcome offer (I get 30% off my birth announcements) and all the other things I might buy, like thank-you cards, nursery prints, or a few personalized gifts for the holidays.

Verdict: Is Minted’s Membership Program Worth It?

Even if you only use Minted for Holiday Cards, you’re going to cover or come close to the membership fee. (If you spend more than $200 on Minted, then you should absolutely become a member.) Add the extra discount for other stationery and gifts, plus the gift box, and I’d say it’s worth it, especially if you plan on buying more than one thing over the year.

Head here to learn more about the Minted membership program or to join.
