As a registered dietitian and mom of two navigating the wild world of parenthood, I’ve been on a mission to find nutritious options for my little ones that don’t compromise on flavor. That’s why I was thrilled to discover Stonyfield’s latest creation: No Added Sweeteners YoBaby Yogurt, made for babies with real organic fruit! Join me as we explore why this yogurt is a game-changer for parents and caregivers striving to provide the best baby food for their children.

Understanding the Need for More Nutritious Options

Let’s face it — raising a tiny human is no easy feat, especially when it comes to feeding them. With all the buzz around added sugars and processed foods, it’s no wonder parents are feeling the pressure to make better choices for their kids’ diets. As a dietitian, I’m hyper-aware of the impact that early nutrition can have on my little one’s health and development. Research has shown that excessive sugar consumption in childhood can lead to a myriad of health issues. These include obesity, diabetes, and dental problems.1,2,3 That’s why I’m all about finding more nutritious options that I can feel good about feeding them.

Exploring the Benefits of Stonyfield YoBaby Yogurt

Enter Stonyfield’s No Added Sweeteners YoBaby Yogurt — an exciting new product made with real organic fruit and no-added sweeteners! With a commitment to using high-quality organic ingredients and avoiding artificial sweeteners, this yogurt for babies provides a guilt-free option for parents. Plus, it has essential nutrients like calcium, protein, and vitamin D, making it a wholesome addition to your child’s diet.

Here are just a few of the benefits:

    • Pediatrician recommended: Among refrigerated yogurts, YoBaby yogurt is the #1 pediatrician-recommended yogurt brand for babies 6 months to 2 years of age (IQVIA ProVoice Survey, 12/01/15-08/31/23).
    • No added sweeteners: Using real organic fruit for natural sweetness, Stonyfield’s newest YoBaby Yogurt has no added sweeteners. You can rest easy knowing your little one has a snack made with real, organic ingredients — no funny stuff included.
    • Essential nutrients for baby: Stonyfield’s YoBaby Yogurt has nutrients that are beneficial for baby’s growth and development. From having calcium, which supports healthy bone development, to probiotics, which promote a healthy gut microbiome, this yogurt is a great option.4,5
    • High-quality organic ingredients: Another aspect of Stonyfield’s YoBaby Yogurt that sets it apart is its commitment to using organic ingredients made without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. This includes organic, pasture-raised milk.
    • Available in a larger format: You can also feel good about reducing waste! This new Yobaby yogurt is now available in a larger (16 oz) format with a resealable top, so you can customize each serving size based on your little one’s appetite for every meal and snack without added waste.

    Serving Suggestions and Versatility

YoBaby organic yogurt is a great first food for your little one starting as young as 6+ months. When introducing yogurt, allow your child to scoop it up with their hands or eat from a pre-loaded spoon. As they get a little older (closer to 9 months), they may be able to pick up pre-loaded spoons on their own as they work on mastering their independence skills.

If you want to encourage your child to try new vegetables, you can also use Stonyfield’s YoBaby yogurt as a vehicle to introduce new foods. Allow your little one to dip sliced carrots, peppers, cucumbers, and more right into this yogurt for babies!

Another great thing about Stonyfield’s No Added Sweeteners YoBaby yogurt is its versatility. Whether enjoyed on its own, eaten as a snack, or incorporated into meals and recipes, the possibilities are endless. Mix it with fruit for a delicious parfait, blend it into smoothies for a nutritious protein boost, or use it as a topping for pancakes or waffles. (Check out our favorite sweet and savory yogurt snack recipes for kids for more ideas.) The sky’s the limit when it comes to incorporating this yogurt into your child’s diet. And the best part is that you can feel good about every bite!

    Addressing Common Concerns and FAQs

If you’re a new parent, you might be wondering whether it’s safe to feed yogurt to your baby and, if so, how much yogurt they should have. Let’s dive right in to address these common questions about yogurt as baby food:

Can Babies Have Yogurt Before Age 1?

In short, yes! Though giving children cow’s milk isn’t recommended until they’re closer to 12 months of age, yogurt for babies can be introduced as early as 6+ months. Start with plain, whole-milk yogurt while monitoring for allergies.6 Choose yogurts with live cultures and probiotics, such as Stonyfield Yogurt. Offer small servings mixed with other foods for variety and balance. Always consult your child’s pediatrician before introducing new foods and solids to your little one’s diet.

How Much Yogurt Is Safe for Babies?

Before the age of 1, there are no set recommendations for total servings of dairy. However, too much dairy intake can increase your baby’s risk of iron deficiency.6,7 Start with small servings (about 1-2 tablespoons) while monitoring for allergies or digestive issues, and gradually increase as tolerated. Aim to limit dairy intake to 0.5-1 daily servings between 6-12 months of age. This can limit the risk of iron deficiency.8 One serving of dairy equals 1 cup (8 oz) of yogurt.

Is Yogurt a Common Food Allergen for Babies?

Dairy, including yogurt, is considered one of the common food allergens for babies. Allergies to dairy products like yogurt can develop in infants, so it’s important to monitor for any signs of allergic reactions when introducing yogurt to your baby’s diet. The good news is that a milk allergy often disappears with time. Many babies with mild milk allergy symptoms can be reintroduced to cow’s milk as early as their first birthday.9,10 If you suspect your baby is allergic to dairy or any other food, consult your child’s pediatrician for guidance.
