Special Education Itinerant Teachers (SEITs) use various therapy strategies to work with children.
Here are some commonly used strategies:
1. Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): SEITs create IEPs that outline specific goals and objectives tailored to the child’s needs. These plans guide therapy sessions and ensure progress is tracked.
2. Behavior Management Techniques: SEITs use behavior management techniques, such as positive reinforcement, token systems, visual schedules, and social stories, to promote desired behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors.
3. Structured Teaching: SEITs use structured teaching strategies to provide predictability and organization in the child’s environment. This may include using visual aids, schedules, and work systems to increase independence and reduce anxiety.
4. Multi-Sensory Approaches: SEITs integrate various senses into therapy sessions to enhance learning. They may utilize sensory activities, interactive games, and materials to engage the child and support their individualized goals.
5. Communication Strategies: SEITs work in collaboration with related service providers such as speech-language, occupational, and physical therapists. Additionally, collaboration with teachers is critical to ensure progress in successful achievement in reaching IEP goals.
