Fresh Fruits and Veggies – Forming Healthy Habits (Plus a recipe!)

    Fruits and veggies are delicious!

But… some parents find getting their kids to eat fruits and veggies difficult. However, kids are likelier to try new foods, form good habits, and enjoy them if you make snack time fun.

We enjoy forming healthy habits this summer at AMC, Rogers Ave, Brooklyn.

Check out our culinary campers making their own fresh strawberry, banana, and chocolate wraps. Yum!

Recipe for strawberry, banana, and chocolate wraps:

    Ingredients:

    • 2 large flour tortillas
    • 2 tablespoons chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
    • 1/2 banana, thinly sliced
    • 2 strawberries, thinly sliced
    • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

    Instructions:

    1. Spread the chocolate hazelnut spread evenly over each tortilla.
    2. Arrange the banana and strawberry slices on top of the chocolate hazelnut spread.
    3. Fold the tortilla in half, then fold in the sides to create a sealed wrap.
    4. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    5. Cook the wrap for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and heated through.
    6. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
    7. Cut the wrap in half and serve.

***Note: You can also serve these unheated. Just be sure to use fresh, soft tortillas.
      Tips:
    • You can use any type of tortilla you like, but flour tortillas work best for this recipe.
    • If you don’t have (or like) chocolate hazelnut spread, you can use another type of spread, like cream cheese, peanut butter, or honey.
    • You can add other fruits to the wrap, such as blueberries, raspberries, or apple slices.
    • If you want to make the wrap ahead of time, you can wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for up to 24-48 hours. When you are ready to eat, unwrap the wrap and heat it in a skillet or toaster oven until heated.
