Value of the Month – Gratitude

Each month, we focus on a special value to help our young learners grow. This month, we are learning about gratitude—noticing the good things around us and showing we are thankful for even the smallest moments. Teaching young children about gratitude is important because it helps them develop kindness, appreciate what they have, and build stronger relationships with others. By practicing gratitude, children learn to focus on the positive, making them happier and more compassionate individuals as they grow.

Your support in encouraging these conversations at home will make a big difference in nurturing this vital quality.

Here are some tips to teach preschool-age kids gratitude:

    • Model Thankfulness: Say “thank you” often and genuinely.
    • Encourage “Thank Yous”: Guide them to express gratitude for gifts and help.
    • Daily Gratitude Moments: Ask “What made you happy today?” at meals or bedtime.
    • Read Gratitude Books: Share stories about being thankful.
    • Practice Kindness: Help them give back or do small acts of service.
    • Focus on Experiences: Highlight fun activities over just possessions.

At school this month, we’re focusing on gratitude—not just saying “thank you,” but really noticing and appreciating the good things in our lives. Gratitude helps children feel happier, more connected, and even more resilient when things get tough. And it’s just as powerful at home as it is in the classroom!

Let’s keep growing grateful hearts—at school and at home!
