    Healthy Homemade Snacks

Do your kids crave an after-school snack? Most kids are hungry when they get home from school. Instead of grabbing a bag of chips or a snack cake, you can easily make a healthier homemade after-school snack.

Prepare these snacks with your child; the time spent together will be remembered fondly. You will instill the values of healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.

Check out these three homemade after-school snack ideas that are kid-friendly and parent-approved. Not only will the kids love them, but you will too.

Yogurt and Mixed Fruit Parfait After-School Snack

Satisfy your kid’s sweet tooth with the wholesomeness of fresh fruit. Layer a spoonful of low-fat yogurt with diced mixed fruit and whole-grain cereal. Repeat the process until you reach the top of a serving cup or glass. Enjoy after school or pack in a seal-tight container in their lunchbox. You can change up the fruits and cereal every time for a new snack creation. Try cottage cheese instead of yogurt for variety. These are easy for kids to help out with. Take a look at these ideas from Easy Real Foods.

    After-School Cracker Snackers

Start with whole wheat crackers and top them with various healthy options. For a sweet fix, try nut butter and sliced apples. Or go for sugar-free jelly and low-fat cream cheese. If the kids want something savory, try hummus and cucumber slices, low-fat Swiss and turkey with mustard, or tuna fish salad and tomato slices. Mix and match for endless snacking ideas. You can give your child a plate of the ingredients and let them assemble their cracker snackers.

    Bite-Sized Pinwheels After-School Snack

Kids love finger foods, so pinwheels made with whole wheat tortilla wraps are the perfect choice for bite-sized treats. Peanut butter and jelly is always a classic but jazz yours up with the addition of thinly sliced bananas. Try marinara sauce and low-fat shredded mozzarella with roasted green bell peppers for a zesty treat. Roll the tortilla tightly with all ingredients neatly assembled and slice into one-inch segments. Serve cold or warmed up in the microwave.
